e sunny south-east is to home to thousands as well as being on of the more popular places in Ireland to head away for a night or two – so you’re likely going to be looking for pub recommendations.
Barring simple word of mouth, we’ve made an easy guide of pubs with all the different vibes covered whether you want to watch a match, have a few cocktails or have pints with a big group.

Itty Bittys – Bank Lane
Hiding in plain sight on Bank Lane, Itty Bittys is a secluded spot down a side street home to a traditional feel pub with a great selection of cocktails and pints on tap.
There’s an upstairs bar and roof terrace which makes it one of the top destinations to go on a sunny day but even the downstairs on a rainy day offers a cosy setting to socialise with friends.

The Reg – The Mall
Only a stones throw from our last entry, The Reg on The Mall is one of the most popular pubs in the city and the destination for many people on a night-out with it turning into a late bar and nightclub.
But even during the day you can head in for a few drinks and a bite to eat in a bar where you will always get an atmosphere.
Hidden in behind Reginald’s Tower, it’s also a lovely setting for a pint with history-filled walls and cosy alcoves to sit down in.
The Tap Room – Ballybricken
Just a short walk away from the Quays if you’re not familiar with Waterford, The Tap Room is a beautifully decorated pub with a charming interior.
A fireplace, dark wooden bar and cosy seating, The Tap Room is ideal to have a few quiet drinks before heading for a night-out down by the Apple Market.

Tully’s Bar – O’Connell Street
In the heart of Waterford City, Tully’s is a traditional pub serving more than a dozen beers on tap which makes it top of the list if you’re a pint lover.
But it’s not only a pub for beer, with a lot more whiskeys and spirits behind the bar too.
Tully’s is home to live music on the weekends but is still a fine destination to head for a chat with friends over your drink.
And, on a sunny summer’s day their outdoor area on O’Connell Street is one of the most atmospheric in the entire city for a few drinks.

Jarrz – John Street
A pub with a difference, Jarrz is Waterford’s first self-serving bar and after opening in 2020 it is one of the most unique spots in the city.
Jarrz is branded as a sports bar and is a terrific place to watch a game be it GAA, soccer or even Formula 1, Jarrz is the place to try.
Located on John Street, it’s only a two or three minute walk to the Apple Market where you can try out some of the many other pubs Waterford has to offer.
Also home to a variety of cocktails and many craft beers.

Alfie’s Bar – Ballybricken
Another trip up to Ballybricken for a pub hugely popular with locals and one of the best traditional bars to watch a game in – usually fills up with punters for a big Premier League or GAA match.
The dark wood and old-fashioned interior make it a picturesque setting to spend an afternoon.

Heerys – John Street
Another John Street entry, Heerys is a busy modern late bar that is also a restaurant during the day.
The popular pub is right in the middle of the busy Apple Market area and with a nice, albeit small, outdoor area it is a lovely place to sit outside during some hot weather,
Where else?
Waterford is full of great pubs with Ballybricken, The Mall and The Apple Market all very close together, you should wander around these areas and try find the bar that suits what you’re looking for.
If you’re looking for a late night option, The Kazbar, Geoff’s, Heerys and most places in The Apple Market as well as The Reg are your best bets.
