JJ Bowles, Thomond Gate

The older pubs always tend to feel that much warmer inside, and with JJ Bowles regarded as one of Limerick’s longest standing public houses, it definitely ticks that box.

The spectacular views of the Shannon out the back probably won’t be as useful during the winter, but the friendly atmosphere inside and old man pub style make it a perfect winter destination.

Drinking a pint in the depths of winter beside a roaring fire is what everyone dreams of, and Nancy Blake’s pub will make that happen for you.

The lovely local pub is known for hearty food, good pints and a welcoming atmosphere.

Jerry Flannery’s Bar, Catherine Street

Grab yourself a pint in here and make yourself comfortable in their snug for the perfect December drinking experience.

This well-known pub is extremely popular year round and attracts a big rugby-watching audience so the snug areas might not be available every time you visit but it’s worth a shot!

Charlie St. George, Parnell Plaza

Another pub that’s managed to stick around in Limerick since the 1880s and is a popular haunt with locals and visitors alike.

Inside it’s exactly what you’d expect to see in a traditional Irish pub, and you might even spot a celebrity or two if you’re very lucky. In days gone by, Terry Wogan, Russell Crowe and many sport icons have visited the Limerick boozer.
