New year, new opportunities and why not a chance to visit some new pubs in the capital rather than sticking to what you know?
While many people are looking at Dry January, attempts to get fit and sorting their lives out, when you’re ready to come back to the pub, we have picked out some great places to sample.
These pubs aren’t new to the city, but a lot of them might be new to you, and if they are, you need to give them a try.
Please let us know in the comments if there are any other pubs you think people should explore in 2024.
The Storyteller Pub, Grand Canal Street Lower
Many people don’t really bother heading down towards the docks unless they are heading for a concert or happen to work there – but there are loads of great pubs, none more so than The Storyteller.
This isn’t some hidden gem, in fact it’s very well-known, but if you haven’t visited it yet, 2024 is the time to give it a go.
Sitting over two floors, this beautifully laid out pub is ideal if you’re meeting up with a group, they’ve a great selection of drinks, great food and a lively atmosphere to top it all off.

Against The Grain, Wexford Street
Of all the pubs on Camden/Wexford Street, Against The Grain is one that you won’t necessarily have been in, and that needs to change in 2024.
Get yourself some craft beers from Ireland and across the world while enjoying some lovely food in this alternative Camden Street boozer.
Board games, cocktails and a really friendly atmosphere just adds to the appeal of this place.
The Swan, Aungier Street
If traditional is your vibe, then The Swan is the pub you need to try in 2024, it’s steeped in history dating back to 1897.
Descended from a medieval inn, The Swan is as authentic as you can get with the victorian pub feel still very much alive to this day.
Good pints, plenty of room for groups and a lively atmosphere make it the place it is.

Peter’s Pub, Johnson Place
Just off South William Street, on the cusp of St Stephen’s Green, Peter’s Pub is a lovely, cosy little pub that’s perfect to grab a quick pint – or a few of them.
Whether you’re in the city shopping, wandering around and looking for somewhere to take a break or just meeting up with an old pal, Peter’s is the ideal spot for a pint while people watching out the window.
It’s a very traditional style boozer and also serves some food if you’re feeling peckish.

The Confession Box, Marlborough Street
One of the city’s smallest pubs just happens to be beside its tallest monument – hidden in the shadow of The Spire is The Confession Box.
Always in the conversation for the best pints of Guinness in the city, the local pub also sells their own whiskey and vodka which you can try yourself inside.
A really unique pub worth trying a pint in.

The Wiley Fox, Eden Quay
Alongside the river on Eden Quay is this little gem of a pub with a huge selection of beers on tap, cocktails, food and live music.
A really alternative style of boozer to many of the others we have listed, this is a lot more modern and bright with a really cool vibe to it.
Well worth visiting with a few friends for a bite to eat and a few drinks.
John Fallon’s ‘The Capstan Bar’, The Liberties
This is another pick for the Guinness lovers as Fallon’s Bar in The Liberties is an old style pub filled with character.
Small and intimate inside, the pub is said to be over 400 years old, and it has managed to keep all that charm of a pub that’s seen it all.
While you won’t find all that much space inside, during the summer months you’ll get people gathering outside after work to enjoy a few drinks as the sun sets.
A great pub.
