The Six Nations is underway and rugby fans are excitedly planning nights out and evenings in the pub to watch Ireland as they attempt to make it three championships in a row.

While many will be heading to the game itself and drinking around the ground – we have some of the best pubs for that here – those who aren’t travelling or heading to the Aviva Stadium will be venturing out in the city.

We’ve some pubs we can recommend as being great for matchdays around the city and slightly further out, these spots will have good atmospheres, plenty of screens and all you need to watch some rugby.

As ever, if you have any recommendations, make sure to leave a comment below.

The Bridge 1859, Ballsbridge

Run by four former Irish internationals in Sean O’Brien, Jamie Heaslip and the Kearney brothers, and situated near the Aviva itself, this was always going to be a massive rugby spot.

They do great food, often have good deals for drinks during the big rugby games and have a lot of screens so you can watch the action no matter where you end up in there.

And of course, if a few of the famous owners haven’t headed to the match itself, you might even bump into them while here.

The Two Sisters, Terenure

Another spot in the heart of rugby territory, The Two Sisters in Terenure is a big rugby pub and will be lovely and busy for all the games again this year.

They too do a fine pub grub menu so you can have a bite to eat for the earlier matches while enjoying a few drinks.

Very spacious heated beer garden area out the back with big screens too – exceptional choice if you’re nearby.

The Bath, Beggars Bush

Like our first option, this is another just a stone’s throw from the Aviva Stadium and definitely a great option if you yourself are heading to a game.

But either way, whether you’re looking for a pint before experiencing it in person, or wanting to sit in a pub for the 80 minutes, this is a great place to go.

Food, great pints and plenty of Irish flags will make you feel right in the mood for some international rugby.

The Old Stand, Exchequer Street

The epitome of a rugby pub, The Old Stand is literally full to the brim of memorabilia and framed pictures of Irish rugby teams of yesteryear.

It’s a great spot for a pint of Guinness and a quick bite to eat and a city centre favourite when it comes to watching a match.

McSorley’s, Ranelagh

Ranelagh is filled with pubs that would be the perfect spot to hunker down and watch rugby all day but we’ve picked McSorley’s as one you should definitely visit.

You’re guaranteed a good atmosphere with plenty of other rugby supporters, great pints and some good food to top it all off.

Rody Boland’s, Rathmines

Just a small bit away from Ranelagh you’ll have Rathmines which is similarly buzzing when it comes to pubs.

The Blackbird is a great shout with its outdoor screen but a bit further up is a real gem in Rody Boland’s.

This deceivingly big pub, has screens pretty much everywhere you look and with plenty of tables, you should have a decent chance of getting a seat.

They’ve a wide menu of drinks and decent pub grub, so definitely a great shout.

Rody Boland's of Rathmines

Toners, Baggot Street

Another great city centre pub that has a lot of room in case you’re worried about not being able to nudge in to watch the match.

Inside the main bar may be a bit tight but outside the large smoking area/beer garden is the ideal place to have a bite to eat, drink a few pints and watch some rugby.

It is very popular so if it happens to get too busy, fear not, pretty much every pub on Baggot Street is great for showing sport, so you won’t have to go far.
