If the sun shines this summer and you’re looking for somewhere to grab a few drinks, Galway has no shortage of great outdoor areas.

Galway is one of Ireland’s busiest cities and truly comes alive in the summer with droves of locals and tourists heading out when the weather allows.

We’ve rounded up some of the very best beer gardens the city has to offer for when you’re in need of a pint in the sun – but we’re sure you have other favourites, please let us know in the comments of any we’re missing.

The Garden at An Pucan, Forster Street

Advertised as Galway’s best outdoor venue, and it’s hard to contest. With its expansive size, this space promises a fantastic ambiance, especially when the sun is shining.

Taylor’s beer garden, Dominick Street

A spacious beer garden that again attracts a big crowd during the summer, the vibrant pub is one of Galway’s most popular and they even have heaters for when it starts to get a bit chilly.

Whether you’re looking to watch a match or listen to some live music, Taylor’s is for everyone.

Jury’s Inn beer garden, Quay Street

A bit of a hidden gem as you might not expect the hotel to have such a big beer garden, but they certainly do, and overlooking the river makes it a lovely spot for some pints in the sun.

It is possibly the biggest beer garden in Galway city so if you’re bringing a big group, this could be the spot for you.

Jury's Inn beer garden

Hole in the Wall, Woodquay

Refurbished extensively in 2019 and now has a very comfortable beer garden out the back, it even has some shelter in case a likely summer shower tries to spoil the party.

Quirky cocktails, lovely pub bites including burgers and nachos and a great atmosphere make this pub a must visit in the summer months.

Carroll’s, Dominick Street

The colourful caravan club is a vibrant venue to enjoy a few summer drinks with lots of space to sit out and enjoy yourself.

Not only that, but the Birdhouse out back is a double decker bus that dishes out some incredible food so you can have a bite to eat and a few drinks.

The garden is home to great tunes with DJ sets throughout the summer.

Massimo’s, William Street

The Soul Garden out the back of Massimo’s is a real sun trap and the place to go on a sunny day in Galway’s westend.

This pub is a real local favourite and known for its lively atmosphere, delicious food, and eclectic events.
