It’s hard to find a pub in the city that doesn’t have a tv, but that doesn’t mean it’s the best spot to sit into a few drinks and watch a game.

Nothing beats being there, as they say, but a pub with a good atmosphere while watching your team play is certainly a close second.

Here’s a rundown of the best pubs to watch a match in around Dublin city.

Sinnott’s – Stephen’s Green

We’ll get the most obvious suggestion out of the way first, there’s few sports fans in Dublin that haven’t tried Sinnott’s for a match as it is one of the most popular.

But with good reason, it’s pretty big, has loads of televisions spread around so you can see matches no matter where you’re sitting or standing and there’s always a good atmosphere with a big game on.

It does however tend to be packed, so if you don’t enjoy being in a very busy pub, maybe avoid it for the very big games.

The Camden – Camden Street

Another pretty mainstream option, it underwent extensive change a few years ago and is now one of the go-to nightclubs in the city but during the day time and into the evening, it makes a perfect pub to watch a match.

You can order food and sit into a few drinks surrounded by massive televisions. It’s perfect for midweek Champions League or Premier League games but also for big rugby or GAA action at the weekends.

It was packed for the 2022 Champions Cup and Champions League final day in May and the atmosphere was fantastic.

The Two Sisters – Terenure

A lovely pub out in Terenure that is perfectly set-up to watch a match if you’re in the area. Since Covid they’ve revamped their outside area which is now a lovely beer garden which makes for a great spot to watch a match.

It’s perfect for a more chilled sit-down and watching a game with friends although it’s not a sports bar so don’t expect packed scenes like you’d get in the options above this.

The Living Room – Dublin 1

Situated just off O’Connell Street, The Living Room was made for showcasing sport and with one of the very best beer gardens in the city, it’s perfect to watch a match on a summer’s day.

Once again, it does tend to get very busy on big match days so you might need to pop down early if you’re going to get in. But well worth a trip, especially if Ireland have a big soccer game.

The Back Page – Phibsboro

A favourite haunt of many Bohs fans, The Back Page is a superb spot to sit down, enjoy a pizza and a pint, and watch a big night of European football on a Wednesday.

Or any night for that matter, they have loads of televisions and plenty of room so for those slightly north of the city centre, The Back Page is perfect.

The Bridge 1859 – Ballsbridge

A proper rugby pub, after all it is owned by former Irish internationals Rob Kearney, Dave Kearney, Jamie Heaslip and Sean O’Brien.

If you can’t get a ticket to a big Ireland game it’s the place to be and when Leinster or Ireland are playing away it’s generally a go-to for local fans.
