Ireland is home to some of the best musical talent in the world, so if you’re in the capital, you might want to get a pint while listening some of that talent live.

Live trad isn’t as common as it once was in city, but Dublin does have a selection of pubs that are home to it, and we’ve picked out our favourites.

Devitts – Camden Street

Live trad music seven days a week makes Devitts one of the most popular pubs in all of Dublin. Located on the always busy Camden Street, the sessions take place upstairs with a special session on a Sunday afternoon for anyone to join.

Even aside from the music, no matter what day of the week it is, Devitts is usually one of the busier pubs in the capital.

The Cobblestone – Smithfield

‘A drinking pub with a music problem’ is how they label themselves and with live music every day it has to be up there if you’re looking for a pint and tunes.

The character-filled pub is a much loved traditional pub – like all of these – and home to one of the best pints of Guinness in Dublin.

Cassidys – Upper Camden Street

Cassidys, located near the top of Camden Street, is another great traditional pub and hosts trad sessions on both Wednesday and Sunday every week.

It’s a great option for a Sunday session, especially if you’re looking for some atmosphere after watching a match earlier in the day.

Trinity Bar – Dame Street

Located on the cusp of Temple Bar along Dame Street, the Trinity Bar is home to traditional Irish music seven nights a week.

They also offer loads of televisions if you’re looking for sport, a great selection of beers on tap and your typical pub food menu – so it’s a bar with lots to offer.

Bad Bobs – Temple Bar

You can head pretty much to any pub in Temple Bar and they will have live music, so we’ve picked Bad Bobs as one of the best to go for the whole experience.

With a lovely decor and traditional vibes, Bad Bobs is busy but often feels a bit more roomy than some of the other squashed spots in the heart of Temple Bar.

They have musicians taking to the stage every single night of the week.

The Foggy Dew – Temple Bar

The Foggy Dew in Temple Bar is another hugely traditional Irish bar that is home to live music multiple nights a week – check their website for the exact schedule.

It’s a lovely bar to enjoy a few drinks and nice music so keep it in mind when on the hunt for a trad session.

Anywhere else?

Well, yes. There is a lot of pubs that could make this list too like Johnnie Fox’s if you are further out, it’s known as ‘Ireland’s highest pub’ and is located in Glencullen, Co Dublin, it’s one of the best renowned for live music around.

As mentioned above, nearly anywhere in Temple Bar will have live music so it’s just a case of picking the spot you want to visit most.
