If you’re looking for scenic beauty, coastal charm and plenty to see and do, Howth should be high on your list of places to visit in Dublin.

This delightful escape from the city is extremely popular at all times of year but especially in the summer months when the weather picks up.

And if you’re heading here and looking for a drink after a refreshing journey along the Howth cliff walk or just looking to sit down with a few pints in the sun, here are some spots you should give a go.

The Bloody Stream – beside the train station

Nestled beside the Howth train station, The Bloody Stream is a perfect spot to chill and have a drink or some food with a vibrant mix of locals and tourists usually congregating.

The pub itself dates back to the 19th century and inside you’ll find all you’d expect from a traditional pub, dark wooden furnishings, an old style bar area and plenty of nooks.

It’s also home to a lovely outdoor seating area that becomes a real sun trap in the afternoon, so perfect if you’re in Howth on a sunny day.

Live music is frequent during the summer months and if you’re looking for a bite to eat they serve a quality fish and chips, as well as plenty of other pub classics.

The Abbey Tavern

The Abbey Tavern is another great spot in the centre of Howth with an old rustic feel, quality food and drinks and live music regularly.

The pub, which wouldn’t be out of place in a bygone era such is its preservation of the historic feel, is known for its traditional music with top local artists delighting visitors on a daily basis.

The food is highly-rated while they have a great selection of drinks from pints on tap to cocktails.

Inside it appears exactly as you’d expect a pub with wooden beams and cozy fireplaces adding to its homely feel.

You’ll also find an outdoor beer garden for sunny days so this really is a pub for any occasion.

Of course, this is just a selection of pubs we think you should give a go on your next visit but it’s not definitive – The Oar House, The Summit Inn, O’Connell’s and many other bars are worth a visit.
