The winter months are upon us again and many would suggest they are the best ones to head to a pub and enjoy a pint during.
Dublin is filled with great pubs that are perfect for a cold, dark evening when you want a few drinks with some friends.
For this list we’ve picked out some great spots that will tick all the boxes when you’re looking for a drink this winter, this isn’t the list of the cosiest spots – we’ve got that here – but rather some bars that still fit the bill for winter drinking and some that maybe you haven’t been to before.
Make sure to leave a comment if there’s any other pubs you think should be added to the list or if you simply disagree.
Doyles Pub, College Street
Just across the road from Trinity College, Doyles is a warm and welcoming pub perfect for winter meet-ups.
The dark wooden interiors, vintage posters, and classic Irish memorabilia give it a nostalgic charm and the dim-lighting perfectly sets the mood to relax and enjoy yourself.
It’s nice and spacious and busy almost every night of the week so if you’re looking for a bit of atmosphere, this is the place to go.

Caribou, Stephen Street Lower
Quickly becoming a new favourite in the city, Caribou had big boots to fill coming into the space that was previously P Macs, one of Dublin’s most loved spots.
But so far it’s proven a welcome addition to the area, sticking with a similar trendy vibe that came before, Caribou offers a wide menu of beers with craft drinks from Irish brewers and a really impressive international collection too.
There is of course the standard drinks as well as a fine spirit and cocktail menu, add all of this together with the uber friendly staff who make the atmosphere inside extremely welcoming, and you can’t go wrong.
The food is top quality and as you can tell by the crowds, everything on offer here is worth stopping by for. Definitely a place you need to try in the coming months if you haven’t already.

Blackbird, Rathmines
A small bit out of the city but Blackbird is another favourite of The Irish Pub Guide, the candle lit set up, wooden interiors and heated beer garden just screams winter pints.
Add their pizza to that and you can’t go wrong. Another pub with a really impressive selection of beers, this place will be extremely busy right throughout the winter months.
The cosy set up here means that no matter how cold or how wet it might be outside, you’ll feel nice and comfortable while sipping away at your favourite drink in here.

The Long Hall, George’s Street
Steeped in history, The Long Hall is a must-visit if you’re a tourist in Dublin looking for the complete local pub experience.
Established in the 18th century, it’s one of Dublin’s oldest and most beloved pubs, known for its authentic character and warm, timeless atmosphere. With a classic bar counter and snug seating, it’s an ideal spot for a traditional pint and lively conversation.
Oh, and it’s also Bruce Springsteen’s favourite Dublin pub.

Toners, Baggot Street
Another of Dublin’s most famous spots, Toners is usually jammed during the winter months but don’t let that put you off, there should be ample space in their heated beer garden.
It’s unusual to recommend a beer garden in winter, but this one is just as good when it’s cold outside, people throng in after work and on weekends to enjoy the quality Guinness on offer and the unrivaled atmosphere.
An ideal place to start a night-out, catch-up with friends or just pop in for a quiet drink.

Mulligans Pub, Poolbeg Street
As old-fashioned as it gets when it comes to appearance, and that makes it feel all that more comfortable and cosy when it’s cold outside.
Somewhat hidden away down on Poolbeg Street, this gem is definitely worth seeking out, with a great mix of locals, post-work drinkers and tourists heading here for a few drinks each and every night of the week.
You’re guaranteed a great pint of Guinness here but they also have a fine selection of other beers, stouts and ales to please all tastes.
The Cobblestone, Smithfield
Lets bring you away from the city centre for this one, The Cobblestone is another institution in Dublin and the kind of place you’d want to be spending a dark evening in Ireland’s capital.
Live music, terrific Guinness and that old-fashioned pub feel make this place extremely popular with locals and those visiting the city.
Whelan’s Pub, Camden Street
Another great pub where you can pretty much escape whatever’s happening outside with little daylight and plenty of snug little corners to gather with a few friends.
A music spot as well as a local pub, the exposed brick, wooden furnishings, and iconic music posters, Whelan’s offers a lively yet intimate setting, making it a great option when in and around the city centre.
John’s Bar, Thomas Street
A quirky bar not too far from Christchurch, John’s Bar is a real down-to-earth spot with a friendly vibe and loads of character.
It’s got this classic, no-fuss pub feel—simple wooden bar, cozy nooks, and old photos on the walls that give it a nice bit of history. People go for the good pints, relaxed atmosphere, and chat with locals.
